  • What sets you apart from other tutors?
Simply put, I have the knowledge, experience, and demeanor to help young students with dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities make significant gains in reading and writing. I hold a deep understanding of the connection between different areas of language development. I also appreciate the unique challenges and gifts of the dyslexic mind. I use clinically-proven programs and best instructional practices to enable students who previously struggled in school to become confident, skilled readers and writers.
  • Which program is right for my child?
The program I use with a student depends on his/her skill levels in various areas of reading and writing development. To determine the instructional needs of a new student, I conduct a comprehensive assessment, which may take up to three lessons to administer. Once complete, I analyze the results and review any current IEPs or evaluation reports to create an individualized learning plan.
  • Is online tutoring right for my child?
Learning online in a 1:1 setting is much different than learning online in a whole class setting. Oftentimes, children who struggle with remote learning in school flourish during my tutoring sessions because they receive the personalized, undivided attention they need to be successful learners. I use interactive tools and programs to make lessons fun and engaging. No worries if you or your child are not "tech savvy." During our first lesson, I will go over the different features in Zoom and help your child practice using them until he/she feels comfortable.
  • How long are tutoring sessions?
Tutoring sessions range from 45-60 minutes depending on what is developmentally appropriate for each child. For students who have difficulty sustaining attention, I incorporate frequent movement breaks and kinesthetic activities into lessons.
  • When and how often are tutoring sessions?
Sessions are scheduled based on availability and instructional needs. I do my best to accomodate students' schedules, but I ask families to commit to at least two tutoring sessions per week in order to make significant gains. Please contact me to arrange a mutual time for lessons.
  • What do I need for online tutoring?
Online tutoring sessions are conducted via Zoom on a computer or laptop. As long as you have the Zoom app and a reliable wifi connection, then you are good to go! Although it's not required, I usually recommend purchasing an inexpensive headset with a microphone. This helps students hear and produce sounds accurately, which is an important part of reading development.
